Stephen Leather is one of the UK's most successful thriller writers. He was a journalist for more than ten years on newspapers such as The Times, the Daily Mail and the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. Before that, he was employed as a biochemist for ICI, shovelled limestone in a quarry, worked as a baker, a petrol pump attendant, a barman, and worked for the Inland Revenue. LOVED this series! This is why I love the Kindle Unlimited. I find these new authors that I never would have purchased otherwise and find that I love them! It's awesome because if it's dull, I haven't lost anything. But you can be sure that I'll be buying anything else in this series, which I hope never ends!I read this entire series in about a week. So interesting, creepy, mysterious, and well written! As an American, I did have trouble with some of the British words, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some other authors I've read. The Kindle was helpful probably 70% of the time in figuring out what the words meant.

This is the stuff nightmares are made of. I was hooked by the first sentence of the first Jack Nightingale book and it's been the same with each book in the series. They just get better and better! I highly recommend this book and this series to fans of mysteries, thrillers and suspense. You'll love them! Just keep your lights on!!
Could not stop reading! Went right into next story! Who is good, who is bad? Fiction? Makes one wonder.
I’m rereading all the Jack Nightingale books and they’re even better now than when I first read the. Stephen Leather is a great writer.
Another ordinary cop- although in these stories ex cop, mixed with the forces if the occult without an overbearing influence of the supernatural.
A heavy smoking, confused ex police negotiator finds his once mundane life overturned by dark forces, uses his natural smarts to take on the denizens of hell who want his soul, and in the meantime take pleasure in making his life hell on earth. An enjoyable twist to the who dunnit.
Love this series (currently on book 6) - the books are dark, but there is some good humor in it. The writing kind'f reminds me of Mike Carey. I'm gonna start following this author.
I've read the first four books in the Jack Nightingale series, and this question still gets under my skin. In dealing with the supernatural, does he do the right things? Does he REALLY have a choice in the matter? What about his reasons for doing them? I suppose the main question has to be, is Jack Nightingale working for the Light or the Dark side? He seems like a good man. Read on.......
Another exciting plot with both familiar characters (good and evil) and new ones.
This time Jack is called upon to be an avenger, once again placing his immortal soul in jeopardy and earning himself new enemies in the process.
The story ends with the feeling that Jack has unfinished business with an old acquaintance the other side.
Once again, if you enjoy stories about the supernatural, you will absolutely love this series.
